my Utah 2011 foto trip fotos are now online

It took me more than 3 month to sort and filter my 2500 fotos, which I shot during my two week (may/june 2011) foto trip in Utah’s Grandstaircase Escalante N.M. I created a selection of my 50 favourite fotos. Enjoy and dont hesitate to give me feedback. The foto album will open up when clicking on this foto below.

Only somebody fotographing himself can understand what it means to go again and again through 2500 fotos (image size of 10-20MB) and filtering out the best shots. Every single foto is linked with a recall of the specific situation when shoting the foto. Often a technical not valuable foto still bears some memories of a nice trip incident and one is unwilling to reject it. So its is really a pain going again and again thorugh the fotos and reducing the count to a reasonable amount suited to be presented online. Therefore I have a second collection mainly for myself where i have stored all trip locations in a collection of 7 albums with 350 shots. Either from 2500 to 350 or 50, it was really hard work to scan all that material and what i learned for the next time: Dont shoot too many fotos!

my lifesaver: GPSmap 62s

Happy to have had the Garmin GPS with me. Several times I would have been lost without it. After not having been too happy with the Oregon 300 this year I used the GPSmap 62s. This one is fantastic. Highly Recommend!!! Great contrast. Easy to use. Long runtime.

GSENM 2011 day 15: White Doms trail

Today was my last full day in USA. I was little bit sad, cause I had began to like the sweet life: travelling around and doing whatever I liked, going wherever I liked and no Work …. I had also get used to my Rental car which I had driven now for over 2800 miles. But being honest, I had completed my list of must do things to enjoy the american way of life: Starbucks drive-through and breakfast in the car; long road trips with Drive-thru lunch in the car. Breakfasting Pancakes with maples Syrup (Williams, Az) , having great Burgers (Page Dam Bar &Grill), Having a fantastic Steak diner (Rubys Inn @Bryce), having a Diner Buffet in Las Vegas (Wynn Buffet) and doing all my backcountry hikes and photography. On my last day I once again got up early in the morning to visit the third and last time Valley of Fire S.P. 50 miles north of Las Vegas. Here I did the White Domes trail a very small hike but offering also a small slot canyon and a historic filmset. I visited also the Elephant Rock at the east entrance and Piano Rock at the Loop road. Returning noon in Las Vegas I did some Shopping in the Premium Outlet Mall North and went a last time to the pool in the afternoon. In the evening I had the Wynn Diner Buffet and finally went to my Hotel for the traditional last evening gambling. (Lost 40 USD).

GSENM 2011 day 14: Ice Box Canyon

Hanging out quickly got boring so I decided to have another small hike in Las Vegas’ Red Rock Canyon. It’s fascinating to drive west on Charleston Boulevard and leaving within 10 minutes from the Las Vegas crowd into plain desert. The Red Rock Canyon is a less known and less visited S.P. 10 miles west of Las Vegas. The last time I had been there I had done the Pine Creek Canyon hike and this time I wanted to have a look at the Ice box Canyon. The Hikes in Red Rock are quite short, often 2-3 hours only. I started early in the morning cause in Las Vegas it was really hot already. The hike itself was easy but funny cause one had to climb over boulders and the Canyon got narrower and narrower. Unfortunately the waterfall was no longer there now end of May. Only two pools which required some climbing to reach them. I returned noon at the Hotel and relaxed the afternoon at the Pool. In the evening I went to watch “Priest” in UA theatre at the strip and again strolled around the strip.

GSENM 2011 day 13: total relax

I had three full days at Las Vegas before flying home to Munich. Therefore I started with a hang out day. Stood up late (which means 8.30 am), breakfast at the hotel (hot ham Bagel + coffee) and then checking out (on foot) the new Cosmolpolitan, Aria City Center complex next to Bellagio. In the afternoon 3 hours at the pool. Hereafter a small shopping session in Las Vegas Premium Outlet North and in the evening driving again randomly around in the lights. At the end of the evening watching the Bellagio water plays and strolling around at the Strip near my Hotel.
